Concentration and insight meditation

Focusing a single object is called calm concentration(Samatha). When   the various objects are contemplated as they really are by focusing and discovering that they are impermanent, painful and selfless, this is called insight meditation(vipassanā). Meditative concentration, one of the eight fold noble paths is essential to meditate insight meditation. Without meditative concentration you cannot achieve wisdom awareness, and without wisdom awareness you cannot achieve Enlightenment. Mindfulness and effort include in the concentration in Buddhism. The outlines of Buddha’ doctrines are morality, concentration, and wisdom. The clairvoyance is not possible without meditative concentration.

The five clairvoyance:
1) remembering one’s former lifetimes
2) clairvoyant sight
3) clairvoyant hearing
4) telepathy
5) the performance of miracles.

These five can also be attained by non-Buddhists. But only Buddhists can have a sixth: knowledge of exhaustion of the defilements (Āsavakkhaya Ňānaṇa).
